Quick Review: Catrice Lashes to Kill Ultra Black Mascara
September 19, 20120 Comments

I'm back with another mascara review (I did a comparison of drugstore mascaras a couple of months back), this time it's Catrice's Lashes to Kill in ultra black formula. I generally prefer waterproof formulas, because they hold the curl better, but I always have a regular mascara in my make up stash. I bought Lashes to Kill on a recommendation and after reading some favourable reviews. Since it's one of the cheaper mascaras available here, I decided to give it a go.

If I use just one word to describe my response after using it for the first time is boring. Really nothing special. Sure, it lengthens and is quite dark (though not the blackest mascara I've owned), but it just made my lashes look "blah". I much prefer my other mascara I currently own the Colossal Volum' Express by Maybelline. I think the problem is that the formula is too runny. However, now that is about a month old and the formula is getting drier, the results are much better: Still it's far from the big, voluminous lashes I get from my Colossal plus I don't want to wait for more than a month for the mascara to really start working it's magic.

.

I can't find any more suitable description of the brush than normal. It's just your average mascara wand with no special flashy design, though the name of the mascara does suggest almost miraculous lashes. I mean Lashes to Kill that's quite promising. If only it were so.

I got mine for about 4 € in Müller. It's an ok mascara if you're on a budget, but it is similar to Multi Action mascara by Essence which is about a € cheaper. I won't be repurchasing.

Things I'm Loving Right Now - Summer Brights
June 28, 20120 Comments

With Summer finally here, I started reaching for some brighter shades of lipstick. I purchased four more in the past weeks (having a bit of a lipstick craze at the moment), mostly Catrice which turned out to be very good lipsticks.

My choices for this summer are (coloured text is a link to previous review and swatches):

1st row from left to right in the first picture and on swatches:
- Revlon Matte 004 Pink About it
- Beauty UK 10 Passion
- Shiseido Glowing Matte PK 224 (a new one, I tried taking swatches but they turned out horribly. But in short, it's a great mix of light coral and pink, a nice everyday shade)

2nd row:
- Catrice Ultimate Colour 210 Pinkadilly Circus
- Catrice Ultimate Colour 100 Lobster Love
- Catrice Ultimate Shine 210 Kiss Kiss Hibiskus
3rd row:
 - Essence 55 Coralize Me!
 - IsaDora Jelly Kiss 47 Coral Punch
 - Maybelline ColorSensational Popstick 020 Tropical Pink
As I said before I purchased four new lipsticks - in the 2nd row from left to right are all from Catrice: Ultimate Colour 210 Pinkadilly Circus, Ultimate Colour 100 Lobster Love and Ultimate Shine 210 Kiss Kiss Hibiskus; and in the 3rd row is Maybelline ColorSensational Popstick 020 Tropical Pink.
All three Catrice lippies are very pigmented. Ultimate Colours have a satin finish and last very well on the lips (survive eating and drinking quite well actually, another shade I own is Frozen Rose). Ultimate Shine one is also very pigmented but has a more glossy finish. Pinkadilly Circus is a medium pink shade. Lobster Love is a bright coral red shade. Kiss Kiss Hibiskus is a bright watermellon dark pink shade (supposedly a dupe for Mac's Impassioned). Catrice lippies cost 4,19 € in our drugstore and I highly recommend checking them out, the quality is really impressive.

Maybelline ColorSensational Popstick 020 Tropical Pink is one of their new ''see-through/transparent '' type of lipsticks. My pictures of the lipstick in the tube are horrible (my camera hates corals it seems), in real life it's not that orange, it's more of a coral pink shade (this is a much better picture click). It's more of a stain and looks very transparent on the lips. It smells amazing, sort of tropical fruity and moisturises very well. It costs around 10 €.

In other news, I got a package from Korea yesterday with my new BB cream. I purchased Holika Holika Peach Girl BB cream SPF37 PA++ in shade #2, which is still a very light shade (actually almost identical to Skin79 Pink Label). It comes with a very cute coral cream blush and a mirror in the lid. So far I've worn it once and I like it a lot. It has a bit of a dewy finish and more coverage than Skin79 Pink Label. A more detailed review and swatches will follow as soon as I test it properly.

Some Lipstick Swatches
December 27, 20110 Comments

As promised in one of my previous posts, here are some better swatches of the Beehive and Rose Petal lipsticks.

I'll start with Catrice Ultimate Color in Frozen Rose. I got this one from my cousin who didn't like it as much as she hoped she would. Despite it's demure appearance it is in fact quite bright, well at least on my skin tone. It is a cool, light pink shade, very similar to YSL Rouge Volupte in Lingerie Pink, however, Frozen Rose is a bit darker. I just find the shade a bit too cool for my skin tone, but I'd still wear it. The texture is very soft and creamy, I wouldn't carry the lipstick in my purse on a hot summer day. Staying power is decent, nothing surprising for such a creamy texture. I think it was around 4 € in Müller.

Natural Collection in Rose Petal is one of the most beautiful shades I have ever seen. Hue being my favourite shade, Rose Petal is definitely a close second. It's a nude, warm light pink, seriously gorgeous and a perfect fit for my skin tone. However, I do have a couple of gripes. Firstly the staying power is quite weak, I'd say it lasts a couple of hours which is such a shame. Second, the shape of the lipstick is really odd and makes the application totally weird, however this is fixable, so no worries. The packaging feels quite cheap, but for the price I wouldn't complain too much. The texture is quite hard, though not dry. It definitely does not have a shiny finish, I'd say it's semi-matte, personally I prefer it that way. Considering it's only 2 GPB, it is an absolutely brilliant lipstick. If you have a chance, get it.

Boots 17 Mirror Shine lipstick in Beehive is a very glossy, moisturising lipstick. The shine is gives is quite impressive, I'd say its comparable to the Stay All Day lipglosses by Essence. The shade is a light pink, however, very sheer. Staying power is really weak, but I have yet to encounter a super moisturising lipstick with an amazing staying power. The packaging is so cute. I have a thing for everything blue and the shade of the Mirror Shine lipstick is so pretty. The texture is very creamy and soft, even at room temperature you have a feeling it'll melt. I believe it was somewhere between 4-5 GPB in Boots. Out of the three new lipsticks, this one is the one I've been wearing the most, simply because I've been wearing it instead of a chapstick.

Vampire's Love edt: An (Almost) Dupe for Fantasy
November 13, 20110 Comments

Fantasy meet your sibling. Vampire's Love edt is a part of the current TE by Essence and it's (almost) identical to Fantasy by Britney Spears. Why almost? Because from the start it's not as sweet as Fantasy, but then it develops into an identical scent. It also lasts the same as Fantasy (which on me is ages). I'll just say a superb quality fragrance for only 6-7€ (50 ml). Vampire's Love is currently available in Műller, I hope it'll be available in DM soon.

Another current LE is by Catrice called Welcome to Las Vegas. I bought the Shimmer Powder because the packaging is just adorable. It's a really small bottle, about a lipstick size tall. It sprays a fine mist of golden shimmer, which is really pretty, but unfortunately doesn't last long on the skin. The shimmer has a subtle nice fragrance.

Müller has a 30 per cent off all Miss Sporty products, so I got Fabulous Lash Waterproof for something under 2€. Unfortunately it's a pretty bad mascara. It smudges like crazy when you're applying it, nor is it good for layering. Second coat just looks odd. Maybe it's just because it's still to wet. However, it is a very good waterproof mascara. I tested it under shower and it didn't smudge or flake off, so it's not like really bad.

Viviana (from Viviana Does Makeup) has been raving about the Dove Nourishing Oil Care Express Treatment Conditioner so naturally I had to try it.  It's actually a really good drugstore conditioner. It's even more moisturising than my other favourite drugstore conditioner which is John Frieda Brilliant Brunette. It has quite a thick consistency (I like that a lot) and it comes out in two colours, like toothpaste. It's very moisturising and made my hair feel very silky. The scent is pleasant, I'd say typical Dove like scent. I think it was somewhere around 4-5€ for a tube, I'll definitely repurchase.

Catrice Made to Stay vs, Essence Stay All Day Cream Eyeshadows
September 17, 20110 Comments

Drugstore brands really stepped up their game recently. After Catrice's Made to Stay longlasting eyeshadow, Essence released Stay All Day longlasting eyeshadow and guess what - they really last a long time on your eyelids.

I own Stay All Day in the shade 02 Glammy Goes to... which is a light gold-champagne color, super shimmery and all-together a very pretty shade for everyday (at least I wear it like that). It's not the creamiest of the creme eyeshadows, but it still blends nicely. I use a synthetic eyeshadow brush (from The Body Shop) to apply it and Mac's 217 to blend it, but you can use fingers. It's very pigmented and it sticks to the lids well. It lasted all day (yes, all day!) and without any base underneath. Didn't even crease. Just brilliant! It almost looked like I just applied it. Luckily, Stay All Day are a addition to the permanent line and come in six colours. I highly recommend these, I'll definitely get more colours  The packaging is a nice, sturdy plastic container with a screw lid.

I have Catrice Made to Stay in a darker shade called 050 Metall of Honor . 050 is a darker bronzy brown shade with shimmer (brilliant shade for lighter eyes). It's creamier than Stay All Day, it blends well and is very pigmented. Again like Essence Stay All Day it lasts all day on the lids. Since it's a darker shade it faded a bit (but really just a bit, a minute difference) and it didn't crease (again without any base). Made to Stay come in six shades. The packaging is a glass container with a screw lid, very posh and pretty.

Essence Stay All Day contain 5,5 g of product for 2,89 € while Catrice's contain 5 g for 3,79 €, so basically Essence one's are a lot cheaper and quality wise there isn't really any difference between them. Still both are seriously good and affordable, all I can say is give them a go.

I also bought one of the Catrice's powder eyeshadows, just to test their quality. For the price (just under 3€ for 2 g) they perform very well. The shade I own is called 070 Mr. Copper's Field and it's a light gold shade, just a nice neutral, everyday shade. It's very pigmented and it blends well. The selection of shades is really nice, loads of pretty neutral shades, brighter shades, even some (very pigmented) matte shades.
